WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT BS EN NUMBERS

Displaying British Standard numbers to show the product is in accordance with the British Standard it has been manufactured to, some BS numbers are accompanied by the letters EN and these mean that the standard was developed as a European (EN) standard which has then been adopted by the UK as a British Standard.

BS EN 1935:2002 – SINGLE AXIS HINGES

This European standard specifies requirements for single-axis hinges for doors opening in one direction only, whose rotation axis is no more than 30 mm from the face of the door. It covers both fixed pin and lift-off hinges, and contains additional requirements for hinges intended for use on fire doors.

BS EN1935 HINGE CLASSIFICATION

This clarifies the necessary adjusted door weights per grade of hinge. Note this is with using 3 hinges.

BS EN 1634 – FIRE RESISTANCE TESTS FOR DOORS

Under BS EN 1634 test regimes, a door withstands fire attack for a period of time, for example 36 minutes or 67 minutes, and for the purposes of regulations is then described as E30 or E60. Withstanding fire attack means not allowing flames or hot gases to pass. In other words, the door set maintains its fire integrity.

BS EN 1154 – DOOR CLOSING DEVICES

The European standard for the performance of controlled door closing devices, providing details on product types, classification by use, test cycles, door mass, corrosion resistance, as well as definitions, product performance requirements, test apparatus and test methods.

BS EN 12209 – MECHANICALLY OPERATED LOCKS, LATCHES AND LOCKING PLATES

Highlighting manufacturing standards on locking mechanisms.

BS EN 1303 – CYLINDERS FOR LOCKS

BS EN 1906 – LEVER HANDLE AND KNOB FURNITURE

BS 8300 – TO MEET THE NEEDS OF DISABLED PEOPLE

Door hardware is designed and approved for DDA use, to allow user to operate all doors opening furniture one-handed, without the need to grasp or twist. Wherever possible, door opening furniture used in conjunction with lock and latches should have lever action.

CE MARKING is a mandatory conformity marking for certain products sold within the European economic area. Under CPR, certain fire and life safety products may only be placed on the market if they carry the CE mark as they need to perform a vital function in the performance of fire, smoke and escape doors. The CE mark indicates that the hardware product achieves at least the minimum performance deemed essential in aspects of its operation and use.
